I am delighted to welcome all the participants for the 7th Open Science Meeting, jointly organized by Hasanuddin University with the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI), the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), the Radbound University Nijmegen (Centre for Pacific and Asian Studies /CPAS), Ministry of Research and Technology of Republic Indonesia (RISTEK), Directorate of Higher Education of Republic of Indonesia (DIKTI) and Nuffic.
Hasanuddin University places research and community services as its main pillars. The OSM is an important event of scientific collaboration between the Netherlands and Indonesia and I am glad that Hasanuddin University has played significant contribution to the success of the meeting.
Science advancement should be of benefit to wider society. Therefore, the theme “Science and Society” of this meeting is important. This meeting is unique, that it is multidisciplinary in nature with wider participations from both the Netherlands and Indonesia and across different backgrounds, from scientists, policy makers to stake holders. The uniqueness of the meeting is an enabling environment for future collaborations in addressing some of the challenges faced by Indonesian society today especially in battling infectious diseases, water and social economic development, which in turn, hopefully will benefit our society.
I would like to thank all of the participating institutions that have made this meeting possible.
I wish you all a pleasant meeting.
